In a 2018 Instagram post, when the separation policy at the border made international headlines, Brown revealed her husband’s incredible empathy for children. According to her, practicing as a pediatrician for over 20 years has given him the ability to distinguish different types of cries from children.

She recalled instances where he could accurately tell if a baby was hungry, hurt, tired, mad, or anything else by the child’s cries. So when he wanted to go to the detention camps where children were reportedly separated from their parents, he said it was because the children’s cries spoke of “terror” and “trauma.”
