Chelsea Peretti was born in New York, has spent time in Los Angeles, and has her major stand-up credits in both cities. But she is probably best-known for playing Gina Linetti on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and her style is singularly unique: sharp, smart, and continuously delightfully offbeat. Her sense of humor transcends the realms of television as she has been heard on many podcasts, stand-up specials, and other projects, placing her as one of the most distinctive voices in comedy.
Chelsea Peretti was born on February 20, 1978, in Oakland, California, and had always harbored a sense of humor and telling stories. She went on to Barnard College in New York, where she fine-tuned her skills before getting into comedy. Her entry into entertainment was hardly typical. Peretti started writing for publications like The Village Voice and Jest, before transitioning into comedy writing on TV shows like Parks and Recreation and Saturday Night Live. But it was her onscreen presence-most obviously in the character of Gina-that really made her a household name.
As any fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine can attest, Gina Linetti was one of a kind among sitcom personalities. Quirky, confident, and full of absurdly brilliant one-liners, the Gina character quickly became a fan favorite. Much of that unique charm came from Peretti herself, who infused the role with her own comedic style. Even long after she left the show in later seasons, Gina’s mark was prevalent.
Beyond her career, Chelsea Peretti’s personal life has also drawn interest, particularly her relationship with actor, comedian, and filmmaker Jordan Peele. The couple, known for their private yet humorous approach to their personal lives, eloped in 2016. In typically unconventional fashion, Peretti casually announced their marriage in an Instagram post featuring their dog as the sole witness. The birth of their son, Beaumont Gino Peele, further solidified the status of the couple as one of Hollywood’s most talented and down-to-earth duos.

Peretti has never been one to allow expectations of her to ever be truly fulfilled, something that was quite humorous at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. When the cameras caught her looking at her phone during the ceremony, some thought it was an act of disinterest. However, she later clarified that she was simply checking the time so she could plan when to use her breast pump—a refreshingly candid and relatable moment. In a world where celebrities are often overly curated, Peretti’s unapologetic authenticity makes her stand out.
Nowadays, her career is in continuous evolution, including stand-up, writing, and new creative projects. Whether in comedy specials, voice acting, or guest appearances, Chelsea Peretti is unstoppable, going and going. And breaking the mold in Hollywood, churning out cookie-cutter stars, proved that originality and humor could always find its place within it.
