At least Sons of Anarchy alum Charlie Hunnam proved he had few, if any, ill effects from the abrupt end to the series as he recently talked candidly about his brief, already forgotten marriage to actress Katharine Towne, and let’s just say that he certainly does not have warm, fuzzy memories of their union. The 37-year-old actor described his time with Katharine as “three terrible, painful, expensive years.”.
Sure, Las Vegas is known for its nightlife, casinos, and entertainment, but it’s also a hot spot for impromptu weddings. While many would like to think that Vegas weddings are some sort of drunken mistake, many couples actually plan the trip for a quick and easy ceremony. The problem is that not all those whirlwind romances end well-and Hunnam and Towne know that well.
The two actors met in the late ’90s, and several weeks into dating, they did the quintessential impulsive actor thing and got married in Vegas. At the time, Hunnam was 18, and Towne was a few years his senior. The seemingly romantic adventure quickly dulled, and after three years, the two found themselves getting divorced. The guilty pleasure, Hunnam later admitted, was an expensive mistake in judgment, one for which he still bears the scars.
Though their marriage did not work, both Hunnam and Towne have moved on with their lives. While Hunnam has gone ahead with his successful career in acting, Towne, daughter of a screenwriter, Robert Towne, has also continued in the entertainment industry. The quickie Vegas marriage did not last, but it is a tale to be cautioned against-impulsive marriages.

Katharine’s Relationship and Marriage to Charlie Hunnam
Charlie Hunnam was 18 when he first met Katharine Towne. The two met at an audition for Dawson’s Creek. Following a whirlwind, three-week romance, the couple decided to take their relationship to the next level by getting married at a chapel in Las Vegas!
Speaking about his marriage in an interview, Charlie said, “The first time I was ever in Vegas I got married, which didn’t turn out that well. I’d known the girl for three weeks, and we’d fallen madly in love, it was the first time I’d ever been in love.”
He further added, “We came to Vegas because, in our 18-year-old minds, we thought, ‘What if we never see each other again? Let’s get married! And then we’ll have to see each other again, even if it’s just to get divorced!’ And so we came to Vegas, but I couldn’t even get a drink! So I didn’t think I was going to be able to get married! I thought it was just a lark! But we sort of psyched ourselves into it and then at two o’clock in the morning, we ended up getting married.”
