Robin McGraw’s Family
Robin Jo Jameson was born on December 28, 1953, in California. She had to face a quite problematic childhood. She is the daughter of Georgia and Jim Jameson. Her father was an alcoholic, while her mother alone raised her and her four siblings, sacrificing for her children and often forgetting about her own well-being so that the children would not be left unattended.
Georgia died, unfortunately, with an undiagnosed heart condition when she was 58 years old. The death of her mother weighed heavily on Robin’s mind and really put things into perspective about taking better care of her own life, being more cognizant of how she needed to take better care of herself than her mother had been able to do in life.
Robin’s family has suffered even more loss; one of her sisters, Cindi Broaddus, died in 2018. The siblings who still survive to support Robin include Jamie Jameson, Roger Jameson, and Karin Jameson. All that happened around her family influenced her life and was taken as a lesson in building her life based on health, care, and family. It has been a story of resilience and growth, both in personal overcoming and professional accomplishment.
Robin McGraw’s Career and Philanthropy
Growing up struggling financially and looking up to her mother for inspiration, Robin McGraw used her platform to help others.
In 2013, she founded When Georgia Smiled: The Robin McGraw Revelation Foundation, named after her mother. It is dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
She and her husband have also been longtime supporters of CASA for Children, which helps foster children in the system.
McGraw has also authored at least eight books from 2006 to 2011. She is a #1 New York Times bestselling author who mainly writes about prioritizing health and aging gracefully.
In recent years, McGraw has been focused on her lifestyle and skincare brand, Robin McGraw Revelation. And she’s been spreading her message about putting yourself first since the producers of Dr. Phil urged her to feature on the show.
She has since gone on The Today Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The View, and Rachael Ray Show. And she also appeared on The Doctors, produced by her son, Jay McGraw.
McGraw is also the pioneer behind the Aspire Initiative, a free curriculum taught nationwide to curb domestic violence and encourage bystander responsibility. It is complemented by an app disguised as a current news app but helps users send alerts to close contacts.
