The highly talented skateboarder and model Dylan Rieder has died after fighting leukemia. News of his death has sent shockwaves through the skateboarding community, grieving the loss of one of its brightest stars. Dylan was known for his incredible skills on the skateboard and his unique sense of style, both on and off the board. It showed clearly that his impact in the sport would not be hidden, and he rose very quickly as one of the most successful and respected figures in skateboarding.
For all his feats in life, Dylan had already done much in his career at 28 years of age. The world enjoyed his skateboarding tricks and video parts; similarly, the guy modeled for well-known brands within the fashion world. Laid back and super cool-that is the guy who gained notoriety among kids within and outside the skateboard culture.
His death has left a chasm in the hearts of his loved ones, and fans remember him. So young, talented, and full of potential, it is just so sad to lose such a shining figure at such a tender age. The contributions that Dylan made to skateboarding will never be forgotten, and his influence on the sport will live on to inspire generations of skaters to come. He will be missed, not just for his skills, but for what he was as a person: an icon, role model, and a true star.
#1 He Started His Career Very Early
Rieder was born to Joe, a barber and Dana Ortiz. He also has a sister named Makenna. Rieder grew up in Westminster, California where he began skating from an early age.
He began skating when he was nine years old and when was 18, he went pro for Alien Workshop. He was noticed for his performance in Transworld Skateboarding’s video, “A Time To Shine.”
#2 He Became Very Successful
Rieder was a success story among the skateboarding community. He competed in Street Leagues from 2010 to 2013 and even represented U.S. in the Summer X Games.
He made it to rank 12 of the 2013 X Games in Barcelona. He had several sponsors, including HUF, Spitfire, MOB, Jack’s Garage, Thunder, and Supreme. He left Alien Workshop when Dill and Ave dropped out in 2013 to start their own outfit. Rieder then joined their firm, F***ing Awesome.
Rieder was very popular on social media, as well. He had over 16,000 followers on Instagram and he often posted pictures of his edgy aesthetic style and his pet dog, Hank.
#3 He Has Done Modelling and Acting Too
Dylan started out as a professional model in 2014, which should come as no shock thanks to his incredibly good looks. He signed with DNA Model Management.
His most notable job was starring in DKNY’s spring campaign, during which he starred in an ad alongside supermodels Cara Delevigne, A$AP Rocky, and Jourdan Dunn. Rieder and Delevigne were also briefly linked together, but it was only their chemistry in front of the camera.
The 6’1″ skateboarder also tried his hand at acting. He played a minor role in the 2003 skater movie, Grind, which starred Mike Vogel and Adam Brody. He was also featured in the Supreme film, Cherry. He also had a solo part in “Dylan,” a video by Gravis.

#4 He Opened a Store in New York
Rieder opened a store with his fellow skateboarders Jake Lamagno and Steven Ditchkus in New York City’s Lower East Side. The store, which was called “The Hunt,” sold furniture and other assorted oddities like jewelry, knives, and clothing from the dark side of Americana.
Rieder had been diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. Rieder’s fans have since been expressing their sadness over his death. Some of them are even celebrities, including the one and only, Ozzy Osbourne.

Dylan’s family has requested that instead of flowers, his fans contribute to Dr. Stephen Forman, an expert on leukemia from the City of Hope Cancer Treatment Center.
